Inca Kola

Inca Kola

Posted on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 1 Comment

While perusing my typical travel, culture, tech and friends’ sites in blogosphere, I came across this article on the History of Inca Kola, from the (surprise, surprise!) En Perú blog. It’s an interesting article about the Peruvian national drink with history about how the brand shaped culture and how it became Coca Cola’s number 1 competitor within the country.

In the 10 years that I have been volunteering in Peru, I have never taken a liking in the yellow Peruvian soda. It’s flavor is a mix of bubble gum and banana, which together can’t be good. It wasn’t until this past year, during a some meals that Inca Kola was the only choice (a few times it wasn’t even cold), that I developed a somewhat liking to the drink.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll pick my good old Coca Cola any day over the yellow Inca, but it’s nice to have a second choice.
